spinal cord injury and marijuana

The medical application of cannabis oil and marijuana went down in the nineteenth century. But with the long-standing therapeutic possessions of cannabis, recent scientific journals are providing experiments of this substance in new fields.
Some already known actions. Cannabis oil is used in several symptoms: nausea and vomiting, pain, appetite stimulant, asthma, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis, and even glaucoma.

But, is there a headway for medical cannabis oil? Will we experience a situation where prescriptions will be made with cannabis in the future? The possibility of this is not expensive.

Recently in GBR, the Netherlands and some American States, have adopted the decision to conduct further research into the therapeutic use of cannabis and marijuana.

Medical marijuana has been known to be effective in the treatment of various severe sicknesses and diseases like:

Spinal cord injury and marijuana

Spinal cord or nerve damage that extend from the end of the spine has been known to cause chronic pain and unavoidable physical problems.

Spinal cord injury also causes an alteration in strength, agility, and bodily function. Those that have suffered this injury, already know the significant impact it can have on their everyday life.

Managing the pain is just as difficult. Although studies are still being carried out on ways to repair spinal cord damage, and the advancement in medical technology is also providing hope for a cure soon. Meanwhile, patients undergoing spinal cord injury have to undergo various physical therapy and pain management procedures in order to live a bit of a normal life.

Clinically, there has been evidence that THC and CBD oil (these are the chemical constituents of cannabis), can control and manage various symptoms in patients with spinal cord damage.

Opportunely, different research has shown clear evidence that cannabis oil, CBD and THC can help give relief to spinal cord injury patients.

The cannabis plant does not only reduce the complications and side effects of spinal cord injury but also helps the body fix itself. Cannabis has been used as a pain reliever in the past, up till today, it still serves as a form of natural analgesics.

It does this by regulating pain perception in those suffering from any form of pain. It can also be applied during massages on SCI patients.

Cannabis is not only effective as a pain reliever – but it also has some other therapeutic and medicinal values like arousal of a neuroprotective response.

This is the brain responding to the recovery process during treatment.

Sclerosis and cbd

Also known as multiple sclerosis, is a disease that allows the immune system to eat away the nerve coverings. This disease attacks the central nervous system and as such affects the brain, the optic nerves, and the spinal cord.

It is evident that treatment for sclerosis has advanced over the years. But, even with that, managing the symptoms has been a challenging issue for patients, prompting them to seek alternative approaches for relief, such as the use of cannabis. Although scientists are getting better at identifying the factors that propel this sickness.

A commendable amount of research evidence suggests that THC and CBD-based medications are effective in treating muscle spasticity that is associated with sclerosis.

Medical marijuana and cannabis have been confirmed to help the following symptoms that are associated with multiple sclerosis:

Sleep disturbance and pain:

Cannabis-based medication has been proven to be effective in the treatment of pain, and three times more effective for sleep.

Muscle spasm:

In the 2014 systematic review, there was evidence that cannabis medications are highly effective in the treatment of muscle spasms.

Inflammation:

As the central nervous system is attacked by this disease, neural tissue inflammation is common. The anti-inflammatory effects of cannabis help in this case.

Abdominal issues: Cannabinoids help in controlling gut response and modulate gastrointestinal issues.

Fibromyalgia and cbd

Fibromyalgia has been quite a controversial health issue over the years. In fact, it is only in the last few years that doctors were able to recognize the condition, and it is often misdiagnosed to this day. Nevertheless,

fibromyalgia is real and its symptoms are – fatigue, pain, and cognitive difficulties, and these can hugely impact a patient’s quality of life negatively. Though some researchers still believe that fibromyalgia is a neurological disorder.

It is likely that patients suffering from fibromyalgia could complement their existing treatment with medical cannabis in order to reduce the harshness of symptoms.

There has been some evidence that medical cannabis is increasingly efficient at dealing with chronic pain and does not carry risks of overdose or dependence as opioid-based medication.

Medical cannabis equally regulates sleep and can stimulate the mind and promote wakefulness, depending on the dose and cannabinoid concentration.

In a research published in PLOS One, 56 fibromyalgia patients were used as a case study, half of them were cannabis users and the other half were not.

It was discovered that cannabis users experienced reduced stiffness and pain, and relaxing was a lot easier for them and they scored higher on mental evaluation tests than their counterparts that do not use cannabis.

Though further studies are still being carried out to make sure that this is a dependable fact.

Cancer and THC

Another disease that marijuana has been proven to fight against, Cancer!

Cancer, being a terrible disease that affects almost everyone, is an issue that researchers have been working on finding a lasting cure for over recent years. Chemotherapy is used for its patients, but its effects are numerous, it affects the appetite, causes pain and nausea. But, scientifically, marijuana has been proven to increase appetite and reduce nausea, pain, and vomiting.

The two drugs used in the treatment of cancer are derived from THC, similar drugs are also being used to treat AIDS.

Marijuana also prevents the growth of a cancerous tumor, reduces inflammation, prevents cell growth, and relieves pain.
